Judge Grants Collective Action Certification in Maryland Sanitation Worker Wage and Hour Case

April 2, 2015

U.S. District Judge George J. Hazel of the District of Maryland certified an FLSA collective action and ordered court-facilitated notice to sanitation workers who worked for Unity Disposal & Recycling as helpers and drivers. The sanitation workers allege that Unity Disposal deducted 30 minutes of pay from every sanitation worker per shift for meal breaks that they did not take. The sanitation workers also allege that Unity Disposal paid them flat daily rates, regardless of whether these rates conformed to Montgomery County and Howard County living wage laws and Federal overtime laws.

Murphy Anderson lawyers Mark Hanna, Joni S. Jacobs and Lauren Hoff-Downing represent the sanitation workers. Michael T. Anderson assisted on the briefs.
