Court Approves Hospitality Workers $270,000 Collective Action Wage Theft Settlement

August 1, 2025

Eastern District of Virginia Magistrate Judge William Porter approved the collective action settlement of a wage theft lawsuit brought by four housekeepers working at the Hyatt Crystal City in Crystal City, Virginia. The $270,000 settlement resolves the wage and hour lawsuit filed against J&B Cleaning Services, a contractor for the Crystal City Hyatt.

The workers alleged that they were not paid for all their hours worked, including overtime, and did not receive sufficiently detailed documentation to understand their pay in violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and Virginia overtime and wage payment laws. Approximately 110 workers who worked at the Hyatt Crystal City are eligible to receive payments from the settlement. Judge Porter directed notice to all possible members of the collective which include all housekeepers who worked for J&B Cleaning Service at the Hyatt Crystal City from November 6, 2021.

Arlus Stephens, Mark Hanna, and Jennifer Vail represented the workers.
