Murphy Anderson Attorneys Win Right to Sue Under Maryland Wage and Hour Laws for Private Contractors on U.S. Military Base

January 10, 2011

U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland Judge Peter Messitte recently held that private contractor employees (security guards) working on a federal enclave (Andrews Air Force Base) can sue their employer under Maryland's wage and hour statutes. Judge Messitte held that the Service Contract Act shows clear and unambiguous Congressional intent that state and local wage-and-hour laws apply to contract employees working on federal enclaves. In so holding, he rejected defendant employer's summary judgment argument to the contrary. Murphy Anderson Attorneys Renee Gerni and Michael T. Anderson successfully presented the employees' argument to the court.
