Murphy Anderson Recovers Unpaid Wages for Home Care Worker

February 3, 2026

The U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland has approved a settlement successfully resolving unpaid-wage and retaliation claims brought by a home care worker against his former employers: Total Quality Residential Services, Inc. and its owner.

The lawsuit, filed by Murphy Anderson PLLC, alleged that the plaintiff worked approximately 72 hours a week providing home care services—including cooking, cleaning, attending doctors’ appointments, and more—for vulnerable adult clients with disabilities in Maryland and D.C. The suit alleged that the defendants violated federal, Maryland, and D.C. wage laws by failing to pay him an overtime rate for his hours over 40 and then retaliating against him.

Under the agreement, the plaintiff recovered more than his total estimated unpaid wages. The settlement also provides for attorneys’ fees in addition to the workers’ unpaid wages and damages.

Murphy Anderson filed the complaint on October 1, 2025, and the Court approved the settlement on February 3, 2026.

The worker was represented by Murphy Anderson attorneys Mark Hanna, David Rodwin, and George R. Murphy Fellow Holt McKeithan.
