Virginia Enacts Historic Legislation for Workers’ Rights

April 22, 2020

On April 22, the Virginia General Assembly concluded a historic legislative session that delivered many victories for workers in the Commonwealth. As a result, Virginia workers will have several new rights, remedies, and enforcement mechanisms available to them beginning July 1, 2020.

Among the new enforcement mechanisms established this session is a private right of action for workers seeking to recover unpaid wages. During the legislative process, Murphy Anderson’s Mark Hanna and Adam Breihan made recommendations regarding the design and scope of this new private right of action.
