Upcoding Fraud

Medical providers have great incentives to upcode, or bill government health care payers for a service or procedure that is more expensive than the service or procedure actually performed. Upcoding a charge can multiply the amount of reimbursement on a given charge. Murphy Anderson lawyers are familiar with many upcoding schemes in a variety of health care contexts, including hospitals, nursing homes (resource utility groups (RUGs)), and individual medical-practice groups. Murphy Anderson has represented doctors, patients, nurses, nursing-home administrators, billing managers, certified coders, and medical-office managers who have courageously blown the whistle on fraudulent upcoding schemes.
