Murphy Anderson Settles Wage-Theft Case for $175,000 on Behalf of Eleven Plumbers in Virginia
The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia has approved a settlement resolving wage-and-hour claims brought by eleven plumbers against Vertical Mechanical Group, LLC, Inspiration Plumbing, LLC, and Dylan’s Plumbing and Cleaning Service, LLC. The case arose from work performed on a massive $1.3 billion development at Reston Row Plaza in Reston, Virginia.
The lawsuit, filed by Murphy Anderson PLLC on behalf of the workers, alleged that the defendants misclassified the plaintiffs as independent contractors and failed to pay required wages under federal and Virginia law. Specifically, the workers claimed they were denied overtime pay when they worked more than 40 hours per week, not paid anything for 30 minutes at the start of their shifts each morning, and, in some instances, not paid at all for weeks of labor.
Murphy Anderson filed the complaint on October 27, 2025. The case settled just two months later. The Court approved that settlement on January 28, 2026.
Under the agreement, the eleven workers received double their estimated unpaid wages. The settlement also provides for attorneys’ fees in addition to the workers’ unpaid wages and damages.
The workers were represented by Murphy Anderson attorneys Mark Hanna, David Rodwin, and Julia Eger, and former Murphy Anderson attorney Samantha Sloane.
