Murphy Anderson welcomes Marc Rifkind

Marc Rifkind has joined Murphy Anderson PLLC.

Marc has 35 years of experience representing ERISA funds, including pension, health & welfare, vacation, and apprenticeship and training as well as non-ERISA funds, such as scholarship funds and foundations. His representation of funds involves clients in construction, transportation, production, service, and security. Marc serves as a trustee on a number of ERISA funds.

Marc also litigates on behalf of ERISA plans and their trustees. His day-to-day activities for fund clients include assisting in formulating and implementing trustee strategies and plan-design goals, compliance with ERISA and the Internal Revenue Code, and representing plans in IRS audits and DOL examinations (including corrections of any defects). Marc has litigated extensively in federal courts throughout the country. His litigation experience includes representing both plaintiffs and defendants in cases involving fiduciary breach, benefit claims, withdrawal liability, and delinquency collection. Many of these cases have resulted in precedent-setting decisions.

Marc also advises non-profit organizations and litigates on behalf of individual workers in wage theft and whistleblower cases.

Marc has been an Advising Attorney to the Washington Lawyers’ Committee’s Workers’ Rights Clinic since 2015. He is a member of the Steering Committee of Workplace Street Law project, sponsored by the D.C. Bar and Georgetown Law School. In that role, he collaborates on curriculum development and planning and has taught classes at several DC public high schools. Marc is a frequent speaker on employee benefit matters.
